Founded in Sudbury by Steven Kuula and Don Mercier*, our journey began with a simple mission: to provide unparalleled service, build lasting relationships, and help families make informed real estate decisions.

In 2006, Steven was inducted into the RE/MAX Hall of Fame, followed by the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009. By 2012, The Kuula Team ranked #14 among RE/MAX teams in Canada and #24 worldwide — a testament to our dedication and innovative approach to real estate. That year the combined efforts of our incredible team gave us the traction to complete 365 real estate transactions which led to the now famous proclamation “We sell a home a day”  In 2017, Steven was honored with the RE/MAX Circle of Legends Award, one of the brand’s most distinguished achievements, recognizing extraordinary career performance and long-term contributions to the industry. 

Of course, none of these milestones would have been possible without the incredible individuals who have been part of The Kuula Team over the years. From licensed sales representatives to dedicated unlicensed support staff, each team member has brought their unique skills, passion, and commitment to delivering exceptional client service. Their hard work and heart have shaped our reputation and helped thousands of families achieve their real estate goals. 

Throughout this journey, we’ve remained proudly loyal to RE/MAX Crown Realty (1989) Inc., Brokerage — the same trusted brokerage we’ve called home since day one. 

Since Steven had spent the majority of his childhood years on Manitoulin at their family cottage on the north side of Lake Manitou, he was very happy to share this magical place with Don in 1995, a year after they met.  It was then that they decided that someday they would live and work here permanently.  Fast Forward 30 years, the new Lakehouse has just been built on 33 acres and 630 feet of beautiful Lake Manitou shoreline. 

Now, as full-time residents of beautiful Manitoulin Island, it felt only natural to expand our services to this vibrant community. Life here moves at a different pace — as locals say, “Once you cross the swing bridge, you’re on island time.” That easygoing spirit is something we’ve embraced wholeheartedly. There’s no rushing, no clock-watching… just authentic connections and genuine service. 

When not busy with clients or working on the business Steven enjoys quiet lakefront mornings with Don and their beloved Sphynx cats, Mani and Toulin.  As an avid deer watcher and as a form of relaxation, most days you will find him bombing around their 33 acres on his electric golf cart tending to the many deer that seem to find their way to our little sanctuary.
